As per our August 2015 Newsletter, The Write Fax provided some useful funding and budget announcements:
– On 12th May 2015, the Australian Government delivered its 2015-2016 budget. Some of the areas highlighted for education and training were lifting the quality of initial teacher education (providing $16.9 million from 2015-16 to 2018-2019), the Universal Access Extension (providing $840 million, adjusted for the Consumer Price Index, to support preschool programmes for a further two calendar years) and changes to strengthen the Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP) system. – In 2014, the Queensland Government commenced the Great Results Guarantee, a four-year funding initiative to improve student outcomes. For the second year of the initiative (2015), it was advised that the Queensland Government would invest a total of $183 million in additional funding for state schools to improve student performance. With 40% of the annual allocation to be paid in Term 3, schools will independently have the flexibility to decide how the funding should be invested. – In March 2015, the NSW Minister for Citizenship and Communities and Assistant Minister for Education Victor Dominello announced there would be an injection of an additional $400,000 in funding for the state’s community language schools network. Increasing the total funding for community languages in NSW to over $6 million per year.
